I’ve Got Another Stupid Idea to Deal with Climate Change

These ones are already taken:

• Stop eating meat (5% global buy in?)
• Stop flying (2.5% of emissions)
• Use zeppelins instead of planes.
• Stop all economic growth.
• Spew particles into the atmosphere to cool the planet.
• Rename Climate Change for more Shock Value

Much of global CO2 emissions comes from the generation of electricity and transportation. Coal, in particular, is one of the worst offenders in climate change. It is used to generate 40% of global electricity.

However, for some reason, people while away their days discussing ideas to reduce emissions by a few percentage points. Climate change is a slow train wreck that is occcuring over decades. Because we’ve squandered the last 30 years, essentially ignoring the problem, we’re devising ever more elaborate schemes to deal with the problem, often a decade from now. Consider that natural gas is often cheaper, always cleaner, and no one wants to live near a coal power plant. Sure, more solar and wind, but I’ll take natural gas globally today.

Stop using coal immediately for electricity.

Buy from companies, and countries, that don’t use electricity from coal. Certify with either “Made with Coal Free Electric” or a nice little logo.
